I have felt to a certain degree that it is mostly useless to be hypercritical of Bert right now because he isn't going anywhere after this year barring something unforeseen. I don't blame others for doing that though with what we have see during his tenure. Jeff Long has definitely done him some favors on that contract.

I see this thrown around alot on here and elsewhere, but its absolutely, positively, 100% untrue. I'm not sure exactly how Jeff Long got this label of being a giant puss, but behind closed doors the man is all business and understands the entire scope of his job.

I think people see him bragging on team GPAs and academic accomplishments and assume that means he's satisfied with the product, but it's actually quite the opposite. He understands branding and constantly wants to paint the UofA in a good light, academics have been about his only selling point lately other than our slight MBB success. Not only that, his job depends on these programs doing well and succeeding both on and off the field; if one of those aspects isnt doing as well as the other, you'd be propping up the better of the two also.

If CBB has a failure of a season and there's a feeling of further sinking? Long absolutely lets him go, barring some sort of justifiable reason to keep him. They're not scared of the buyout and know it would cost much more in the long run to keep failing.

I understand that there is some major hate for Jeff Long on this board from some posters but I'm not sure how you got all that from what I posted.

The only thing that I have ever complained about in regards to Jeff Long in the buyout for Bert. I actually think he has done a good job outside of that. I have even defended him in some threads. I guess you are just kind of lumping me in with some of his haters.

That might be the case and that's great but that still doesn't mean it was a good decision.

Bert is a negotiator, a little bit of this and a whole lotta that.

GPA's are up

A 9 win season and Bert's locked up til 2021

I get a kick out of the guys that say he shouldn't hire a football coach or be the AD because he never played football.

I hope so. I also hope Long has learned his lesson with the contract. I hope he is able to hire a football coach with Bret Bielema's résumé too. That was a tremendous hire on paper, but he has failed here. We just spent an exorbitant amount of money expanding the football stadium, and I can't help but think that will factor into decisions somehow.
