40 seconds is insane. Caleb Dressel is a monster. I think in high school I was in the upper 40's somewhere, 47-48.
I used to swim this event all the time as well. IMO 200 breastroke is the toughest physically. That last 50 was super tough.

You are probably the best athlete on the rant. 400iM is the toughest event in sports in my opinion. Just finishing it is an accomplishment in itself.

Question for you swimmers. Why does this not count as a world record? Can those only be set at certain meets?

World records are only officially kept in short course meters and long course meters. The international world gives 0 fricks about yards, so us open or ncaa is the unofficial record for yards.

Ahh. For some reason I did not catch that the NCAA swims yards.

This was a short course meet. World records are official at long course (50 meter pools).

The meet is in a 25 meter pool. It was at the IUPUI Pool in Indy. It is one of the best pools in the USA.

huge negative. Ncaa's was 100% yards this year. Only twice has it been short course meters, 2000 and 04.

As one of our coaches used to say, short course is for turners and long course is for swimmers. Thank goodness it's long course season

We Americans use the yards...screw the metric system!
