So I got to thinking, which is dangerous in its own right.

Which is harder to accomplish..

Getting into a bowl game, making a college regional, word series, etc... or making the NCAA tourney?

How many bowl games are there?
How many teams are eligible for a bowl, etc..

How many are in a regional, super regional, the college world series.
How many teams play for this opportunity?

etc...

NCAA Tourney in both basketball and baseball is more of an accomplishment. Roughly 40-50% of teams in NCAAF get a bowl. In basketball, there are about 300 NCAAB teams and roughly 20% make the tourney. Football is very resource intensive, so you can almost spend your way to the top. In basketball, the field is slightly more level.

It's harder to get to the sweet 16 in basketball than it is to get to the cws.

A super regional would be the equivalent of an at large bid in basketball.

A regional the nit.

Making a bowl game before New Year's Day is the easiest.

There are only 128 FBS football schools. There are 41 bowl games, 80 teams made bowl games this past season, including 20 with 5-7 records. There are 347 College basketball teams eligible for the NCAA tournament each season. 34 of those go to the conference winner and there are only another 34 at large teams.
