Goal line Defense

For those who understand play calling and defensive coverages, is there a distinct disadvantage for a defense to have zone coverage inside the 5 yard line when a team likes to run the pic route (inside receiver runs flat route, outside runs slant and "accidentally" runs into DB)?

Wasn't sure so I looked up Goal Line Defense and all I could find was this:

It really depends on the offense you're facing and your personnel. Really the things to keep in mind:
Pros for Man:
Less personnel to cover receivers
Ability to play press on those receivers
Ability to adjust your defense to cover a player instead of focusing on a particular area
Better suited if your Corners and LB's are really good
Pros for Zone:
Protecting areas (if your DBs are slower and there is a speedy WR, this would make it easier)
No need to double cover a star WR
Easier to confuse the QB
Better suited if you have a strong DL and a slower secondary

This is exactly what I thought of when I saw this thread. "You know, this could really backfire."

It's not really a backfire IMO. Maybe if he was trolling gators.
It's one of the few legit threads I have ever seen on here that could create actual strategic discussions.
That said the pic was a funny reply

Playing zone is very dangerous at the goal line if your guys can't match up. The pick route combination is nearly impossible to stop either way if the other teams' wideouts are good enough.
Usually teams just run press man coverage if they anticipate a pass (i.e. team comes out in shotgun) and will shade their corners inside some or even run zone if they anticipate a run.

I've always wanted to see a defense run a zone against the pick route, where the CB stays outside, inside DB picks up the slant and the OLBs or MLBs (depending on how a team lines up) get the RB.

Zone is tough near the goal line. Any good WR will find the soft spot in the zone and sit there. Any good QB will make that pass also. Its just like baskeball though, if teams keep running pick plays then you can always switch on the 2 WRs.

My definition of zone is the new modern zone coverage. Basically it's the switch only if the pick route occurs. Its seems impossible but I've seen similar coverages outside the goal line that actually work
