Will Mississippi State become a consistent 9-10 win program with OM's downfall?

I think they could. The State of Mississippi has always had enough talent to supply one competitive SEC program, but having to split it doomed MSU and OM. Now MSU gets all that talent to itself and has the 2nd best coach in the SEC who has no interest in leaving. Plus, the nearby state of Alabama is leaving behind a lot of SEC caliber talent because Bama mostly recruits nationally now and Auburn gets most of its players from GA and FL. It's a perfect goldmine of talent, coaching, and stability for MSU to make the Dak years more of the norm than the exception.

Yep, and those players will now mostly go to Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, Auburn, etc. Alabama lost out on 5-6 elite Mississippi kids the last few years to Ole Miss.
State might sign a couple more players, but it isn't like all kids that would have gone to Ole Miss are now going to go to State.

If they do, they'll be the next program to hear the ice cold knock of death on their athletic department's door.

If Auburn can't do it, I doubt we could. I'd say 7-9 is the standard under Mullen. We'll have a chance for a 10 win season, if we can mold a very productive QB, and some necessary pieces to go along with it. That's certainly possible, but only once every 3-5 seasons.

Ole Miss has been awful for extended periods of time in the past. State was never a consistent 9-10 win team then. Not sure why you'd expect any different now. Dan Mullen will not consistently win 5 or more SEC games every year, which is what it would take to be a 9 win football team, including wining all his OOC games, which they have also struggled to do

You think OM being on probation is going to get State 5 more wins?

If Dan Mullen could lock down the state of Mississippi and get the occasional Florida Texas and Louisiana star, I'd say tMSU would start to look similar to Mullen's UF teams.

No. OM has always been a program that was down and MSU was never that much better. Both schools will never be at the top consistently

Let's all hope, right? The SEC is a better conference when State is a 10 win program.

MSU won't change because of the OM situation. Bulldog fans, whether they believe it or not, do not have the desire/commitment required to be a consistent 9-10 win program. In the position that we're in, with no natural advantages, we would have to go over and above the commitment level of an LSU or Bama or Auburn, and we just don't have that mindset.
I'm not criticizing. The fact that we don't define ourselves by football Ws & Ls is one of the things I love about State

Yes, but they must strike while iron is sizzling hot.

Wins in 2016 - 6 (State won)
Wins in 2015 - 10* (adding one win to actual win total just to simulate OM losing)
Wins in 2014 - 11* (adding one win to actual win total just to simulate OM losing)
Wins in 2013 - 7 (State won)
Wins in 2012 - 9* (adding one win to actual win total just to simulate OM losing)
Wins in 2011 - 7 (State won)
Wins in 2010 - 9 (State won)
Wins in 2009 - 5 (State won)
Total wins = 64* (including the 3 added wins)
Total # of seasons that Mullen has been at State = 8
64*/8 = 8
61/8 = 7.625
So, even if I add 3 wins (meaning that OM would have lost every single time since Mullen became head coach) Mullen only averages 8 wins a year. Don't see State becoming a consistent 9-10 win program being in the West and having to recruit against the West. Mullen hasn't had but one recruiting class in the top 20, never had one in the top 15.

Now MSU gets all that talent to itself and has the 2nd best coach in the SEC[/quote]
It is debatable that Mullen is 2nd best coach in the SEC behind coach O
You Coach Saban in my opinion could be better than Mullen.
