I had the same surgery when I was 7 years old (30 years ago). I've been taking thinners for just as long too. I get my blood checked monthly (supposed to anyway) and I have to minimally watch my diet (gotta stay away from that vitamin k). I live a normal, happy life with little to no restrictions, and I'm positive that your son will be able to do the same.

He'll be on thinners for life too. The hospital is pushing his insurance so we can get the "blood thinning detection" machine (or whatever the hell it's really called) for the house; since it costs about $3K I sure as hell hope the insurance company comes through. It will make it a whole lot easier for him to test to make sure his blood is the correct "thickness" or whatever the hell that's called.
He's not wild about any sort of diet
