I haven't followed Bama baseball as closely in recent years. Didn't the Goff hiring kind of come out of left field? Like his name wasn't really being thrown around, and then one day his hiring was announced.
I'm probably mid-remembering that though.
Anyway, firing him wouldn't burn any bridges since Byrne could just chalk it to having a diffrent vision than the prior AD.

We supposedly were attempting to hire Godwin from ECU and David Pierce from Tulane.
Godwin is still at ECU and Pierce has Texas good again in Year 1.
