Any commitments?

Alabama does not have a running back committed right now

Spring updates

Alabama had a running back committed for almost a year, but four-star Bainbridge, Ga., back Dameon Pierce recently reopened his recruitment. Look for him to sign elsewhere.

Alabama has re-upped its pursuit of in-state Austin High star Asa Martin, who played at the IMG Academy as a junior. Back in February, Martin said he hadn't heard from Alabama since Mel Tucker was there - more than a year earlier.

Alabama offensive coordinator Brian Daboll is a fan of Martin. He got an offer and Daboll saw his spring game. Things could clear up even more for Martin after the first camp from June 4-6.

It's cloudy after Martin. Alabama wants five-star Zamir White, the nation's No. 5 prospect, and has seen him this spring, but he appears to be a Georgia or Clemson lean. Alabama still recruits others, including Florida State commit James Cook.

Alabama likes Mountain Brook running back Harold Joiner, but as a receiver, tight end, safety or linebacker. Joiner sees himself as a future running back.

Bottom line

It's not a priority position unless most of the current six non-senior scholarship backs leave. Alabama will sign just one running back this year. Remember that current back Joshua Jacobs didn't emerge until late January in the 2016 class.

The roster for the Elite 11 Finals is set. The three-day camp features 24 of the nation’s top quarterbacks competing to earn one of the 12 invitations to The Opening Finals held at Nike World Headquarters.

Five 247Sports Composite five-star signal callers lead the group including Clemson commit Trevor Lawrence of Cartersville (Ga.) — the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit in 2018, USC commit Matt Corral of Long Beach (Calif.), Penn State commit Justin Fields of Kennesaw (Ga.) Harrison, Washington commit Jacob Sirmon of Bothell (Wash.), and Ohio State commit Emory Jones of Franklin (Ga.) Heard County.

Several uncommitted quarterbacks are competing. The highest rated being Tanner McKee, a top-75 recruit out of Corona (Calif.) Centennial who is considering Stanford, BYU, Alabama and others. Bossier City (La.) Parkway’s Justin Rogers is considered a TCU lean and North Charleston (S.C.) Fort Dorchester’s Dakereon Joyner is considered a South Carolina lean, and both will be throwing at the Elite 11 Finals as well.

Others uncommitted prospect competing include Earle (Ark.) Top247 quarterback Gerry Bohanon, Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton three-star Tyler Shough, Lehi (Utah) three-star Cammon Cooper, and Jacksonville (Fla.) Providence three-star Carter Bradley. Bohanon is considering Mississippi State, Arkansas, and Auburn. Shough is giving Michigan, Indiana, and North Carolina a strong look. Washington State is considered the team to beat for Cooper, while Rutgers is the latest to offer Bradley.

UCLA commit Dorian Thompson-Robinson of Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman, Auburn commit Joey Gatewood of Jacksonville (Fla.) Bartram Trail, Stanford commit Jack West of Saraland (Ala.), Utah commit Jack Tuttle of San Marcos (Calif.) Mission Hills, Michigan commit Joe Milton of Orlando (Fla.) Olympia, Mississippi State commit Jalen Mayden of Sachse (Texas), N.C. State commit Devin Leary of Sicklerville (N.J.) Timber Creek, Missouri commit James Foster of Montgomery (Ala.) Lanier, Virginia Tech commit Quincy Patterson of Chicago (Ill.) Solorio Academy, Kentucky commit Jarren Williams of Lawrenceville (Ga.) Central Gwinnett, Colorado commit Blake Stenstrom of Littleton (Colo.) Valor Christian, and Iowa State commit Re-al Mitchell of Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco round out the Elite 11 Finals field.

Washington quarterback commit Colson Yankoff was selected to the finals, but the Coeur D’Alene (Idaho) product will not compete due to an injury.

The Elite 11 Finals will take place in Redondo Beach, Calif. June 2-4. 247Sports will be on site to provide complete coverage from the top quarterback camp around.
