Here's the hate.
That's essentially a football version of Affirmative Action. Taking numbers of something just for the sake of having numbers of something. If 8-10 Alabama guys are elite, I'm all for it. If the only top guys in-state wind up being Justyn Ross and Coynis Millet, then I hope we only sign two. It's supposedly a down year nationally overall for elite talent, so maybe we really could sign more in-state if they show out at camp. But give me the formula we've been using of simply signing the best players out there regardless of where they're from. I want to win far more than display Alabama HS football pride.

I think if the talent of an in-state kid is comparable to an out of state kid you take the in-state guy 10 out of 10 times.
For one thing, the in-state kids take the Iron Bowl personally. That's why Auburn always gives us fits when we obviously have the superior overall talent. They motivate their players with "Alabama doesn't respect you. They didn't even offer you a scholarship."
I know there's value in establishing recruiting in-roads out of state by taking some of these guys, but did signing Mike Marrow help us out in any fashion over the last 8 years?
