Offer extended to 4-star safety from Texas

Alabama still is in the early stages of figuring out who it ultimately wants in the Class of 2018, which is why we have seen numerous offers go out to top prospects over the past few weeks.

DeMarvion Overshown, a 4-star safety from Arp (Texas) High School, was offered a scholarship from defensive line coach Karl Dunbar on Thursday.

“I was super excited because one of the greatest schools in the country just offered me,” Overshown told SEC Country shortly after Alabama offered.

He hasn’t visited Tuscaloosa yet, but he’s already interested in the Crimson Tide.

“My interest is pretty high because of their success and I have just heard that it’s a good school. I’m going to do my best to get up there.”

Overshown is rated as the nation’s No. 14 safety in the Class of 2018 and the No. 16 prospect in the state of Texas.

5-star prospect commits to Miami

Lorenzo Lingard
, the nation’s No. 2 running back in the Class of 2018, committed to Miami on Thursday.

Lingard had visited Tuscaloosa back in the summer and said Alabama was one of the main schools he was considering.

“There were three eye-catchers at Alabama,” Lingard said at the time. “The coaching staff is just full of great people. That’s something I am looking for in a college. I like their personalities a lot. They have great energy and knowledge. The second thing was when I went to camp, I really liked the intensity they had going on. That’s my type of style. That’s how I practice and how I play. Then, finally, coach (Burton) Burns, the running backs coach, we got along really well. I think it would be great to be coached by a guy like that.”

The need for a running back in this recruiting cycle isn’t as important this year because the Crimson Tide convinced 5-star prospect Najee Harris to stick with his commitment and Alabama signed 4-star prospect Brian Robinson in the Class of 2017, too. Dameon Pierce, a 4-star running back, is committed to Alabama in the Class of 2018.

Alabama is interested in Lingard, and I doubt it will stop recruiting him now that he’s committed to the Hurricanes. The Tide are also interested in 5-star prospect Zamir White, who has visited Tuscaloosa multiple times.
