Nation’s No. 1 player says it means the world for Alabama to offer and 5-star prospect commits elsewhere
quote:

Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Roll Tide-ings, a rundown of everything happening in Alabama Crimson Tide recruiting, with Chris Kirschner. Today, we discuss the latest with the nation’s No. 1 player, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and another new offer out for Alabama.

Thibodeaux reacts to Alabama offer

Alabama has now entered the race for the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit in the Class of 2019.

Kayvon Thibodeaux, a 5-star defensive end from Dorsey High School (Los Angeles), got word from his head coach that the Crimson Tide want him to play football for them in two years. Naturally, he was excited to receive the news.

“It means the world, honestly,” Thibodeaux told SEC Country. “They are the best school in college football. They are a great school with a great program, but I have equal interest in all of the schools that have offered me.”

Thibodeaux hasn’t visited Tuscaloosa yet, but he hopes to make it to campus this spring or summer. As always when it comes to recruiting, prospects can’t be considered serious targets until they visit any program at least once. It’s extremely rare to have a prospect — let alone an elite one — commit somewhere where they haven’t been to before.

The 6-foot-5, 235-pound prospect said leaving home for college is not an issue, even if the stereotype, for the most part, when it comes to California kids is that they stay on the West Coast. Only two of the top 15 players in the 2017 class from California crossed the Mississippi River to play college football. One of those players was 5-star Alabama freshman running back Najee Harris — the other was 4-star DE D.J. Johnson, who signed with Miami.
