I hope he stays...our conference needs him to stay. If we could get a few more really good coaches we could be a really strong conference again. Even if Mike White remains at Florida over the next few years.

I think he means:

1) There is a will to be good at basketball. Our old stadium sat 12k and was one of the largest for its time. Would even be pretty large by today's standards. The current one is 18k. Part of that is undoubtedly due to bringing in non-basketball attractions to Columbia (concerts, etc.) But SC really cares about its basketball. We might have to ask scrooster but I believe there was a time during the McGuire era that basketball was more popular than football here.

2) There's plenty of pure talent in the Deep South / Mid-Atlantic. It's just hard to pry the top talent away from any of the blue bloods. Especially with Duke and UNC so close by. But hey, grabbing top in-state talent is how we reeled off all those 11-win seasons in football.

Let's see...

We are in the Carolina's, who have major programs in Duke and North Carolina. There is a shite ton of basketball talent around the area. People actually support our program. We have a big arse arena, that is one of the nicest/best in the SEC. We have all the fricking ingredients of becoming a powerhouse.

Basketball is a different animal up here on the atlantic, compared to Alabama. Now ya'll will never become anything significant, because of your football program in that state and most of the talent is raw, because of football.
