Players could foul less

They probably could if we could find some officials to call a consistent enough game from beginning to end instead of being so inconsistent you don't know from half to half what is/isn't a foul.

It's what happens when calls are largely subjective.

You can't take subjectivity from the officials. So many factors are involved...maybe robots eventually.

I just don't remember officiating being this shitty in the 90's and early 2000's

College officials are more ticky tack than anything in the NBA. The flow of the game is terrible.

In the Arkansas/aTm game the other night, I don't think there was a single foul called in the first 5 minutes or so. It flowed so smoothly, but once one foul was called, all hell broke loose and it was whistle after whistle.

I also think officiating inconsistency contributes to chippy play on the court. In the Ark/UK game a few weeks back, the officials were terrible IMO. Calls, lack of calls, led to chippy attitudes between the teams.

Things like that could be avoided with consistent officiating across the board. When I watch a basketball game, I am not tuning in for a FT contest. I am watching to see what two teams go against each other in a game.
