Why would I want to make my win (or close loss) seem less impressive? Especially in college basketball when beating a highly ranked team greatly improves your resume. I guess I just care more about my team looking good than the other team looking bad.

I don't think the selection committee takes crowd chants into consideration

Ummmm, you know its just a chant right?
They don't lose RPI points because of it
