College basketball in general around the country has hit the skids the last decade or so. There's only a few good teams and then a gigantic pile of mediocre.

Bigger emphasis on football
are the two major factors IMO

I think you are dead wrong. First year of college playoff
Final four game. Kentucky vs Wisconsin. 28.3 million viewers
Final four football. Ohio state vs alabama. 27.2 million viewers. Same year
The country cares more than you think about cbb. Unless there is some electoral college ratings bullshite. There were more viewers for a basketball game than blue blood football teams in the first playoff game ever.
