How has he not already proven he is a good coach? He has SMU one win away from a bowl w/a freshman QB. Do yall really not know how much damage June Jones did to their roster on the way out?

He's done a great job rebuilding SMU. But that's still different from competing at the highest division against high quality staffs every week. And dealing with media scrutiny/big money boosters all year. And recruiting against P5 programs for the best recruits.

Pretty much what Taco said. And it never hurts to have more data points, while Strong wasn't texas's first choice he did look pretty decent on a paper. We are seeing how that turned out now.

One good coaching job at a smaller school doesn't make him a god. It is impressive what he's done at SMU, just want to see if it's a flash in the pan or not. Remember when we all thought Sumlin was the best coach ever after 2012 too?
