Auburn fans do you feel that your defense has been wasted?

Biggest improvement on the team IMO. Steele did a good job with them. Gus holding you back now?

Just like les held back lsu. Auburn won the game this year, but lsu will win the war as gus will remain on the plains for another year.

And beat lsu again next year

Obviously I'm not an Auburn fan but I'd like to say that this years AU D-Line is the best I've seen going back to those stellar D-Lines that Pat Dye always had in the 80's when Auburn was dominating the conference. Auburn can swap out 8 guys on their D-Line and have very limited drop off. The Iron Bowl will be a defensive battle make no mistake about it. I'm very worried it'll turn into a field goal contest. Daniel Carlson is good from 58 yards on in. I get a little nervous about A-Damn Griffin's accuracy sometimes. This might be the year AU avenges Van Tiffin's 1985 walk off game winner.

Yes. This is a championship caliber defense.

Gus' recruiting of QBs and keeping his son Lashlee on staff is holding AU back. I think Gus will be just fine once he gets a QB and an OC that will bring fresh ideas into his offense.

Auburn has a lot of depth on defense so I don't expect a lot of drop off next year.

If it wasn't for the D, Auburn loses to Vandy.
That can't be a waste.

Yes the offense has been awful all season

On one hand, yes, because it's good enough to win a championship with offenses earlier in Gus Malzahn's career. On the other hand, no, because the foundation has been formed and it looks positive going forward.

I think there will not be much drop off in defense next year as well. However I think the bane of AU's offensive existence has been the lack of a passing game. That has been the standard for the past 6 to 8 years. Even with Cam the passing game went through Darvin Adams as the only lifeline available ( for the most part).
The route tree, hands, and overall talent of AU's wide receivers have been nonexistent for the past eons.
This years defense has been, for the most part, completely wasted.

Auburn's defense last year wasn't terrible, just had a lot of injuries. This year, they've been healthier.

LOL!
If Les wasn't so bad at clock management, Auburn doesn't win this year.

The defense, especially the line, is beautiful to behold on its own.
The greedy side of me is pissed like you suggest, but the more level headed side of me can take a lot of enjoyment out of this season that could have been strictly by seeing us play good defense again.
It's the Auburn style I grew up on and haven't seen for better part of 8-9 years.

Yep... since the LSU game last season where we gave up 40+, aubunr has played some pretty good defense. Haven't allowed a P5 opponent to score more than 29 points (in regulation).

Wasted? We were up to #9 in the country at one point, so no. Injuries have completely decimated our offense. Sucks, but that is football. Now, The first couple games I do say were a bit of a waste, but overall no.

Auburn is like a lot of teams not named Alabama. We have depth in some areas, and other areas we are thin. If our injury situation is favorable in our thin areas, we can take it a long way. If we have some key injuries in areas where we are thin it severely hampered our ability to compete for a championship, how deep we are in other areas
That's what you're seeing here. All our running backs are banged up. Sean White is banged up. Which leads to is losing to a really shitty Georgia team, and severely limits us against a stacked Alabama team.
It is frustrating... But it's not a lot different than other teams in our same boat which includes most of the good teams in the SEC. Tennessee, Florida, Ole Miss, A&M... all good teams that had some unfortunate injuries that led to some key losses.

Yeah that's all fine and well but this very easily could be a team that is 9-2 or even 10-1.
A healthy White at QB and a healthy Pettway at RB could have and should have been what we started the season with. No doubt we beat Clemson with the team we had from week 5 - 10.
I'd wager to say we could have beaten A&M as well. They beat us more convincingly though so I'll concede that point.
Our offense didn't hold us back against Georgia as much as it did weeks 1-4 and that was 100% on the offensive coaching staff.
