There were 32 teams that got to go to Bowl games in 1992.

For a total of 16 games per year (for Bowl games).
Now, there are 80 teams making it in, out of 120.
Is this really fair? It seems like cheapened football to me.
If you are going to do that...at least put the larger Universities together so we can all share the same money this way.
I don't get it. 32 used to make it.
Why 80 all of a sudden?

Same reason there can't be any winners at field day anymore.

Money and sponsorships. But the number of bowls has diminished the accomplishment and the CFP is killing attendance at most of the bowls.
But I watch as many of them as I can.

Yep. This x 1,000. But there is something called law of diminishing returns. The product on the field is watered down. It's this corporate nonsense and PC everyone gets a participation trophy. It sucks and it ruins the college football experience but it's a reality that we have since the late 1990s and sooner or later the money will dry up. I mean it's fairly obvious to even a marginal football fan that most of these bowls have a half filled stadium. If the school's fans aren't traveling to nice "tropical" destinations you'd think that the television networks would wake up to that. They don't though. Somebody has to cover the bill for all of those empty seats. Corporations write them off as taxable I guess. It's becoming a joke though.

On one hand, I hate it.
On the other, it's Christmas season and there's a frickton of college football on.
Got family in town you don't want to talk to? Drink and watch football. Got family in town you want to talk to? Drink and watch football.

I like having a ton of bowl games to watch. However, I do think there are way too many people trying to hop on the gravy train

I watch too. But most of these games are pointless.
The end of the season should be more like a tournament. Like it used to be.
Power Universities vs. other Power Universities.

Exactly.
I'll never understand the There's Too Many Bowl Games crowd... who wants less college football?... and who's putting a gun to your head making you watch it?

couldn't be farther from the truth. BOWLS ARE INDEPENDENT ORGANIZATIONS. anybody can host one. all they have to do is find an underwriter, get a TV slot and sell the tickets. it's called CAPITALISM. communities do it for the same reason communities have festivals. fill the hotels and restaraunts.

I can agree to a point. But, on the other hand, it's kind of boring though and basically proves nothing.

LSU was 2-9 in 1992.
We may have been close to qualifying in the new "bowl landscape."

It used to mean something to get to a bowl. Hell we got to bowl games during our probation years of 6-6. The bowl system is a joke.

The independence bowl used to be a good bowl

You just described my brain man. College football is awesome and the bowls let you watch teams and players you normally wouldnt.

I just think that if you aren't in the Top-32 in football by the season's end..then you need to call it a season. Just work harder next year.
I love College Football...but if you can't make the top 32 at the end of the season, then you don't deserve a "Bowl" in the first place when all things are said and done.
Just my opinion.
It jeopardizes the integrity of the game.
