We really have no moral ground at all if we are putting our vets at risk for $. How is that different than any corporation using dangerous equipment, etc? We dont say our factory workers made a sacrifice etc.

You're attempting to simplify a very complex subject.

Because a factory worker maybe at best generates revenue for a company. A US soldier backstops money for everyone.

Think about it. A hundred dollar bill is just a piece of paper with green ink. Yet you go almost anywhere in the world and someone will be willing to trade that paper for a good or service. That piece of paper is a shared delusion in a way, as it is only given value because the US government deems it such. It is the new gold.

Why is this US backed piece of paper desired by so much of humanity? Because it's backed by the largest economy in the world, the strongest military force in human history period, and it's tied to the energy resources that make our world literally go that all come from that region that we send troops too. Oh and because the trade it facilitates has its trade routes protected globally by our Navy, because currency is only worth something if you can use it.

So what freedom does someone serving provide? The freedom for almost every American to have an artificially high standard of living, a cushy life with social stability and personal liberty where you can post on a forum, and the ability to easy (compared to anywhere else) generate the world's first real global currency. A lot of the world have just as worthwhile people as America without anywhere near the opportunities because they aren't swimming in all these dollars that don't grow on trees in America because they are fricking trees.
