I don't know about 1945, but I know that "title" they claim around 1973 is bogus. The year Notre Dame beat them in New Orleans.

Same with the bogus "title" they claim back when they lost to Texas in the Orange Bowl. Probably around '64, Namath's last year.

Also, didn't they claim a "shared title" with USC back in the Bryant era, even though USC beat them on the field the same year?

They have no pride in claiming those "titles".

But football is about all they have.
