QB- C- hasn't been atrocious but not good either. BMAC has been underwhelming, granted a TrFr. Perry continues to hold onto the ball and take sacks instead of throwing it away as well as consistently under throwing or throwing behind receivers.

RB- B- Play calling and OL have cuffed these guys.

TE/WR- B Hurst, Crosby and August have been consistent receiving blocking could use work. WRs are young but a ton of drops.

OL- F I don't think I need to elaborate on this one.

DL- C+ Gotten a solid pass rush via English and TFLs this season

LB- C+ way too many missed tackles here early on. Coming into their own in that regard. Still cannot fill the gaps to stop the run.

S- B Haven't seen too many blown coverages over top.

CB- A these guys are keeping the play in front of them and rarely give up the big play.

Special Teams- Kicking- B- TAMU really hurt this geade.

Special Teams- Coverage- B haven't been super but haven't been terrible as in the past.

Coaching- Overall- C- nothing amazing

Coaching- Offense- F Crappy play call variance and personell coupled with atrocious oline play. PPG is absolute shite as well

Coaching- Defense- B+ they have the guys in position to make plays and make great halftime adjustments.

I was going to grade the units, but I got too depressed too quickly.

I also think you should add a Special Teams - Returns. That grade would be an F. From almost a safety at Vanderbilt to not having a single person who can field a punt, it's shockingly bad outside of one really good return by Turner.

Can't really argue with any of it ... I might go easier on the offensive play calling though. I think the play calling has been okay but execution has been atrocious at times. You touched on that - I think Roper is going to be fine once the playmakers start making plays.

I'd also credit the DBs for producing a respectable amount of TOs for us given the circumstances

you're being too kind to the OL and offense across the board. 87 points overall and 66 in the 8 SEC games is what 2016 USC has to beat in order to be better than 1999. the good news is 2016 USC is on pace to do so almost doubling up the 1999 Gamecocks at 14.0 ppg to 7.9 ppg

it's been interesting watching the collective defense vs the 2015 edition. through 5 of 8 conference games there's some positive trending overall.

Gamecock defense 2016 v 2015 - SEC games only

Scoring - 21.2 (5) v 30.4 (14)
Total D - 371 (6) v 448 (14)
Rush D - 243 (11) v 224 (13)
Pass D - 128 (2) v 224 (9)
Opp 1st Dn - 20.4 (8) v 23.3 (14)

Red Zone D

Attempts - 19 (5 games) v 37 (8 games)
TD - 10 (5 games) v 25 (8 games)
FG - 5 (5 games) v 6 (8 games)

In conference games, the Gamecock D has returned to comparable numbers in yards allowed and points allowed to some of the better defenses since 2010.

2010 - 378 / 26.1
2011 - 268 / 16.9
2012 - 302 / 21.1
2013 - 346 / 22.3
2014 - 458 / 36.8
2015 - 445 / 30.4
2016 - 371 / 21.2

Our defense has done a hell of rebound since last year, they're a lot better than they were. They aren't great yet, but the progress is there. I think Darius English is near the top of the conference for Sacks...finally. Offense is complete hot garbage though. OL isn't doing anything to help and everything else about the Off is suffering. We have a walk on QB and a true FR QB, so our situation with that isn't good, and won't be better until next year. We might as well give Bentley a look, however, I'll understand if they want to RS him since the most we can hope for now is some low tier bowl.
