he owns the gun but he didn't have a concealed carry for it

generally speaking, it's a class C misdemeanor in TN, $500 fine or a class A if it was in an area open to the public
For convicted felons or when used in the commission of a violent crime, it's a Class E felony
If it's the misdemeanor, it's very easy to get an under advisement plea for someone without a record. Had a client who forgot her gun was in her purse and carried it to the fricking airport
