One of his major errors IMHO was in 2014 he was all about Dylan Thompson breaking records. He should have concerned himself more with prepping a QB for 2015 when he had his chances. That was just one poor decision, on his part alone, that has cost us.
I kinda agree with you but those games were mostly so tight we couldn't. Plus Mitch was a terrible QB and there wasn't much hope behind him with Orth and Scarnnechia. Ultimately, its SOS fault for not bringing in a better QB or not going against his philosophy and bring in a JUCO or grad transfer. Chad Kelley was interested in coming and we said thanks but no thanks. That's ultimately on Spurrier

What Steve did was shitty. He obviously just quit giving a frick. The guy should have resigned when he quit caring. If I was a gamecock I would loathe what he did to the football program.

I think the majority is pissed how it ended, but you aren't going to find any Gamecocks that hate the man. He brought us to heights we've never been before and proved to everyone it could be done here.

He left you in shambles on purpose, not to threaten his beloved Gators. arse hat to the end. Wallow with the spur dog, you get fleas.

that's kind of a shitty thing for him to say about all the guys who used to work for him TBH.

The Spur, just telling like it is. He is an arse hat

I remember these quotes:
I told Nick Saban one time, I said, ‘Nick, you don't have to stay there until midnight and your teams would be just as good and win just as many.' He said, ‘If I could do it the way you do it, I would, but I don't feel comfortable unless I try to cover every base, every angle, be totally prepared.' I said, ‘Well, that's probably why you do it.' When I come out there, I feel comfortable we are ready to play. We have our game plan in, going to call this, call that and so forth. Everybody is different as far as when they feel they are totally prepared.
Hatin'-arse Spurrier continued:
If he worked longer hours "would we be 12-1 instead of 11-2? Oh, you're kidding," Spurrier said. "I haven't heard anybody say that really, but if you wanted to, you can find faults with anybody if they don't win them all. How many SECs has (Saban) won there in eight years? He's won two. He's won three nationals, but he's only won two SECs in eight years. Now, if you had the No. 1 recruiting class every year and so forth, I don't know if he has maxed out potentially as well as he could."
Hahahaha

I always enjoyed the threads that South Carolina fans started about "how many more years will it be before Spurrier breaks Coach Bryant's record".

We're not happy about it but truth be known the blame should lie with Ray Tanner.
Spurrier wanted to retire after the Miami bowl win ... Tanner talked him out of it. Tanner was caught off guard as a new AD and wasn't ready, didn't have a contingency plan in place and had made no contacts within either the search community or the actual coaching community.
He used his friendship with Spurrier to convince him to stay - again, Spurrier's loyalty cost us.
I hold it against Tanner far more than Spurrier or any of his coaches.
There were some viable candidates that Tanner could have brought in after that win over Miami - but he was not prepared.
Would have been a whole lot easier signing a new coach ... like Herman for instance, after that 2014 season where we had won a ton of games over the previous five seasons, than waiting for us to take a nose dive and for Spurrier to bail out of desperation.

He was always lazy when it came to prep and recruiting.

This. He wanted to retire in 2014 after we got crushed by Clemson and you could see the way the program was going. The bowl win against Miami was a perfect chance for him to go but his wife and Ray talked him out of it.
He then tried to convince himself and the fans that the team was going to be better than we all knew it was, and tried to force himself to get re energized. It didn't work and after the season started he realized he should have stuck with his guns and retired the previous year.

Alrighty, here's one 9-2-15....
On the eve of the 2015 opener, Bryant, Spurrier, Saban, Richt, Miles ....Posted on 9/2/15 at 9:51 am

With 28 more SEC wins, Spurrier will tie The Bear for most SEC wins. (Entering this season Spurrier has 131 and The Bear 159) Does he stay at SC long enough to do so?
quote:
Okay, now, Most SEC wins ... (taken from the 2015 Press Guides)
1. The Bear (Kentucky/Bama) - 159-46-9 (37 Seasons)
2. The HBC (Florida/SCAR) - 131-48 (22 Seasons - Active)
3. Johnny Vaught (Ole Miss) - 106-41-10 (24 Seasons)
4. Vince Dooley (Georgia) - 105-41-4 (22 Seasons)
5. Ralph "Shug" Jordan (Auburn) - 99-65-4 (24 Seasons)
6. Phillip Fulmer (Tennessee) - 98-36 (17 Seasons)
7. Nick Saban (LSU/Bama) - 85-24 (13 Seasons - Active)
8. Mark Richt (Georgia) - 80-37 (14 Seasons - Active)
9. Gen. Robert Neyland (Tennessee) - 62-15-5 (14 Seasons)
10. Frank Thomas (Alabama) - 59-16-6 (13 Seasons)
11. Les Miles (LSU) - 58-26 (10 Seasons - Active)
Again, does Spurrier stay at SCAR long enough to catch or pass The Bear?
Don't think he made it. Didn't he quit on his team halfway through the season with only 2 more wins?

Guilty as charged.
He sure looked like he was within reach at the time.
Okay, so now that that's settled ...
