Texas A&M defensive coordinator John Chavis, who was Les Miles' defensive coordinator for six seasons at LSU, told ESPN.com Monday that he sensed toward the end of his tenure that power brokers were plotting to force Miles out as head coach. "It's always sad to see a man and a coach the caliber of Les get pushed out," Chavis said. "He's a Hall of Famer and a legend in the state of Louisiana. I was blessed that he gave me an opportunity to coach at a place like LSU, but I can't say I'm surprised that he's gone. They were trying to fire him when I was there, and I told him so."
quote:
Chavis saw a similar situation unfold at Tennessee when future Hall of Famer Phillip Fulmer was fired in 2008. Chavis, one of the most respected defensive coordinators in the college game, left LSU for Texas A&M following the 2013 season. He said his issues were never with Miles, but that he didn't trust the LSU administration.

just because he won a championship 9 years ago doesn't mean he gets to underperform.

Hope LSU enjoys Kiffin running them into the ground. They'll deserve every season of mediocrity they're going to have to drunkenly stumble through

but but but he left because of the offense.

And the plot thickens. Maybe Les did this on purpose as a pay back. LSU may have made a grave mistake by firing the wrong person. Maybe Aleva was the n=one that should have been fired and Les would have been able to do what he wanted as the coach.

We all know he left because of the "Les Clause." It was made clear years ago.

Chavis is a genius for getting out when he did

It was obvious right up until that court document proved that Alleva offered Chavis a guaranteed contract for more money than A&M is paying him.

quote:He sure fricked this thing up last year. One thing I will say about Les, he was a very loyal man. They wanted Cam gone last year and he stood by his man. Many props to him for that.
Maybe Aleva was the n=one that should have been fired

I'll take John's advice on best buffets across the southeast.....but as far as how we handle the hiring and firing of our coaches, well he can just shut the frick up.

This is kind of interesting. Guessing 21-0/Bama fallout. They did fairly well in '12 and '13

He left because of the Les Miles clause, and he later stated that was the same thing Tennessee did to Fulmer when they were trying to get rid of him. That's why Chavis left.

I think Pelini was DC on that 2007 team.
