LSU made a HUGE mistake firing Miles

The reason is simple: You don't fire the coach who gifted your program with a national championship and assume you'll be lucky enough to hire a coach who can do better.
Also, you have to assume any head coach other than Saban will have an occasional disappointing year. For example, if Mizzou had fired Pinkel after the 2012 season, Mizzou wouldn't have won the East Division in 2013 and 2014. Patience is a virtue.
LSU fans assume LSU will make a huge hire, and they may very well hire a star coach.
However, while Tom Herman may be doing well at Houston, he may not do well at LSU against SEC competition. Sure, his Houston team beat Oklahoma. So what? In the SEC West almost every team is the caliber of Oklahoma. Herman's Houston team doesn't play a schedule remotely close to as brutal as the SEC West schedule so it's easy to point to the Houston victory over Oklahoma as proof of future success when in fact that victory is anything but proof that Herman is a world beater.
That's assuming LSU will hire Tom Herman.
LSU isn't Tom Herman's dream job. His dream job is rumored to be Texas and he may get his shot to be the HC at Texas sooner than later.
So, if LSU is unable to lure Herman to Baton Rouge, what other coaches would LSU hire who would be better than Miles?
What other potential candidates have won a national championship?
Firing Miles was a big mistake.

Call me crazy, but I think LSU can do better than this 4-5 stretch that we're currently on. Thanks for preaching, though.

Killz, I've got some bad news. The REC got together and decided we're going to have to let you go. Thanks for the energy and passion you brought to the internet fanbase. Good luck in your future endeavors.

I would have fired him last year! Thats the only mistake the AD made. LSU can and will do better. Art Briles maybe? With the talent in LA, he would just have to find a QB to fit the system.

Letting someone's past accomplishments dictate present and future value when record is getting worse is a big mistake.
Coaches can decline. CEOs can decline. Leaders in business can get worse.
Les became stale. Stale leads to decline.
Any number of coaches can win 7-8 games at LSU. We want better.

That's not how it works. Both of the previous 2 coaches won their first national title at LSU.
