Most of use Boogs are pretty rational about this, at least now that the afterglow of 2013 has completely faded.
Gustav is clearly not the genius we thought he was, based on our two recent championship runs. But we're not inclined to spend the $9 million or so it would take to buy him out this year - particularly since it would involve allowing the idiot who set up that buyout (and hired him, and Chiz, in the first place) to be a part of the next hiring process.
The vast majority of the AU fanbase would like to see us replace our retiring President, and have him/her evaluate (and replace) our current AD before embarking on another ride on the Coaching Carousel.
Winning (or should I say, not losing) the other night makes that possibility a little more palatable. Of course losses to MSU, Arky and/or Vandy might change the dynamic. Likewise, running the table, or winning 7 of the remaining 8 games would likely restore our confidence in his abilities (admittedly, this seems pretty improbable).
Tl;dr - Gus didn't really 'save' his job, but his seat is a little less warm.
