“I understand what’s at stake. I understand the rivalry and all that. [But if you] put so much emphasis on one game, there’s a long season to be played. Not one game is going to make or break Butch Jones and Tennessee football. I’d kind of chuckle if I hear that, but that’s not the case.”

The toughest game in your division is generally the one that's going to make or break your season. That's just the way it is - if you're trying to win the conference championship.

SEE: LSU v Alabama.

Coaches that use that psychology shite to hide big games doesn't work. They need to embrace it like Saban does, if not it makes your team think you are scared of the moment. It is obvious Saban embraces Bamas biggest Rival and the biggest game on his schedule every year, and it works

quote:

UA center Barrett Jones said he'd had LSU on his mind for a while now. "It's the game we circle on our schedule every year," he said.

If he says that it's the biggest game publicly and he loses, it will make himself look terrible. So, I understand where he is coming from. However, deep down he knows that it is the biggest game.

I think Tennessee has very little chance of winning, but I still think this is the biggest game that any East team will play this season.

He's wrong. All UT fans know this is a must win game for Butch. This is the most critical game of his career so far.

They were talking about the game, not your coaching ability, Butch.

Is it impossible to acknowledge that some games are bigger than others while also keeping in mind that potentially losing on game does not ruin your whole season?

In a way it is, this is the year of no excuse. If he can't get it done this year he is not the coach we need. A loss to UF can be overlooked but he would need to beat Bama AND win the east, not likely.

Well he isnt wrong

Tennessee has extremely large losing streaks against a number of teams and it hasnt been a problem for Butch before.

As long as they beat the FCS teams its all good

Sounds like he skirt. He knows if UF shows up Vols are beat. But he has a young team.
