reelgator:

IF memory is correct, Tennessee was one of the schools that led the charge to harshly penalize Florida via the SEC stripping titles for 84 and 90 and not allowing Florida to go to a bowl to play BYU for the national title in 1984 after they were banned from the Sugar Bowl by the conference (The NCAA penalties were to ensue the following year), and then only a couple of years later UT found themselves facing a huge scandal that put them on probation. Is that correct?

It was the first time and last time in history that a conference penalized a team on top of the NCAA, effectively lengthening the sanctions by a year beyond what the NCAA provided.

Not to my knowledge.

Scholarships were reduced for two years and Majors said he was happy with the outcome. But it did start the process by which he was fired.
