Contribute then instead of calling me names. If you (especially you) set the story straight I will believe it.

Spurrier committed coaching suicide.

1 - he named Whammy Ward his DC (and yes, A&M exposed Whammy as a Bush League DC)

2 - he named his son RC ... I didn't realize how bad it was until he was gone and HS coaches started coming forward and telling stories about the snubs by Junior.

3 - ... and this was the real killer for Spurrier's tenure. We had a Top Ten class lined-up and solidly committed. Then Spurrier comes out with his "a couple more years" comment and that was the death knell.

He committed coaching suicide.

The loss to The Citadel was under Elliott. Spurrier would have never lost to The Citadel. What happened against The Citadel, (and they've knocked off other SEC programs as has other Southern Conference teams) what happened against The Citadel was the perfect storm hit us. Whammy and Elliott combined to completely cause that one and when combined with the other turmoil ... our kids were in a daze and those cadets smelled blood.

I talked to Citadel friends of mine before that game who were guests of mine and they knew they were going to win that game. And after that game I was flat out told by someone who heard it first hand ... Herman had called and backed out. We were sitting in the Cockaboose not the least bit surprised to hear the news. I think I picked up my phone and texted a friend or two about it and none of us were surprised. I probably posted about it in the SEC Gamecock forum before the press ever got word ... and none of us could blame Herman.

I think it is going to work out fine for us in the long run - we hired a better recruiter and a young energetic staff and that's exactly what we needed this time ... the program is not dead like it almost was after what Brad Scott did to us ... Lou Holtz came in and saved the day - we're nowhere near that.

Spurrier committed coaching suicide ... and we had to let him, we owed him that.
