Somewhat agree. Charlie left the cupboard full, no doubt. But you cant deny Petrino is a top5 coach in CFB, at least offensively. Can he have longevity at a program?? That remains to be seen, as he hasnt thus far.

I know one thing, I wish we wouldnt have had to fire him. I also hope we never have to play against him in the SEC. Im happy so far with CBB but Petrino had us higher than we've been since the mid 80s.

He is a very good coach. However, people love reinventing history. I've seen knucklheads on here refer to his 16th ranked class as proof that he was a top notch recruiter. That classes's rating was bolstered by 4&5 stars Colby Berna, Anthony Leon, Anthony Oden, Austin Moss, Ronnie Wingo, Rudell Crimm and Darius Winston.

Imo you can't say someone is a top 5 coach then qualify it by cutting the game into a third.

The top coaches in the country all field teams solid in all three phases of the game.

He's lucked into a mobile QB who can also pass the ball, this is no different than what has been seen from Malzahn, bryles, Mack brown etc. they have an elite QB who presents match up problems and have a great year or two as a result. If finding these qbs was more than luck, they wouldn't have mediocre years surrounding this QB.

Top coaches are shown by showing consistency from their teams and programs.
