I really don't want to pick on LSU, but the fact that a team whose last 5 games were as abysmal as Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss and A&M, with a bowl bump vs perennial worst defense in CFB Texas Tech, was universally picked as a Top 5 team and playoff contender is just ludicrous.

People had lists with that offensive line, who was whipped physically by Alabama and Arkansas, as the #1 o-line in America. A front 7 that was manhandled by Alabama and Arkansas, with no stretch that showed improvement, was just assumed to be an elite unit. A QB that had never made plays in a big game was just accepted as a guy who would improve because he was a year older.

I didn't expect LSU to lose to Wisconsin (that was just utterly embarrassing), but the idea that they were going to just automatically morph into a team that would go 11-1 or 12-0......It was a narrative that snowballed and became just accepted as fact by June or July, last third of the 2015 season totally forgotten.

Yes, they certainly didn't live up to the hype like Tennessee did.

That's a good observation, George.

I'd like to add to it by mentioning the weird phenomenon of the LSU fanbase flip-flopping about Miles. They went from WE LOVE MILES before last season to WE HATE MILES after the losses to Arky and Ole Miss back to WE LOVE MILES after they beat a weak Aggie team and a weak Texas Tech in the bowl game. WE LOVE MILES EVEN MORE after the Aranda and Dameyune Craig hires -- THEN after the very first game of the new season it's back to WE HATE MILES and not only that, they want him canned yesterday.

AND the story continues because the LSU fans already have Tom Herman coaching the LSU Tiger in 2017.

During the off-season, LSU fans have selective memory and believe any favorable information that is posted on the internet, heard on the radio or seen on TV. They cannot be talked down. Then when something goes wrong they totally freak because of the unrealistic expectations THEY have for the team.

Here is a response to a post I made trying to calm the unbridled optimism. It is unbelievable how fanatical the guy is about the total BS crap he is posting.

Herbstreit, "Can you imagine the talk shows this week down in that region about Les Miles and that offense, the entire offseason was about how this offense was going to grow with Brandon Harris and how they are going to take the pressure off Leonard Fournette and it really came down to Brandon Harris trying to make a play and throwing the interception but in my opinion Wisconsin deserved to win the game, they outplayed them, they wanted it more, had more passion, played with a chip on their shoulder, at the end they got it done. On one hand, there’s a story about where does LSU go from here ... "

Yeah, thanks Herbstreit, because of your dumb arse shaming the LSU athletic department and the LSU fans, we have to sit through this shite again. We were going to have a new coach this year, but you had to come in with magnanimous shite and cock block a chance for our team to be special. Thanks arse hole, yeah, we’re still talking about the same shite again and where does LSU go from here??? There aint going nowhere, that’s where they are going or maybe you can tell us arse hole.

LSU people are entertaining as hell.

Well put... I'd also add the aranda hire fed into the hype machine. He's very good, but three DCs in three years is tough for any program.

Spot on assessment. I have no faith that it will be corrected. Most teams improve from game 1 to the next. From what I witnessed yesterday it would take a miracle to improve.

Same thing every year. Our fans jizz on themselves over recruiting, so-and-so QB looks improved in spring ball, Less is going to open up the offense, etc. Same idiots now want Cameron fired and the backup QB to start, as if those two things occurring would drastically change the vacuum that is Less Miles as head coach. A huge portion of our fanbase can't spell IQ, much less have one.

Asking for Cameron to go and the backup QB to start without asking for Miles to be fired is like going out and wanting solid gold door fixtures for your trailer after a tornado destroys it.

First off, most of us wanted Les gone last year. And we thought it would happen until it suddenly didn't. And yes there was an outpouring of Les support from retards in the media as well as retards who just thought it would be mean and ungrateful to fire him. Ultimately it came down to money, and the powers decided to keep him. So we're stuck with him. So what else can we do besides get excited? We had good recruiting and for the first time in a long time, some juniors stayed rather than leave early. And most players on normal teams improve with experience. Esp QBs.

The optimism was for nothing and we all realize it and none of us are shocked. Just frustrated.

The offense sucks, the season is already over for us, and this veteran team is wasted. I just hope LSU loses enough games to ensure a new coach.

This is an easy post to make in retrospect. First, there is no reason that a team can't go from losing a few games in a row in the last season to having a very successful next season. In fact, LSU did exactly that from 2002 to 2003.

Second, there were several reasons why LSU fans were optimistic. We clearly have the talent, and we had hoped our coach was "woken up" by last year's events.

We were wrong. Obviously. But that doesn't make the narrative "lunacy," just overly optimistic.
