Here's the deal. Manziel had a very good year against teams that didn't know anything defensively against the spread. Look at what happened when he faced LSU. They dominated him - by far the worse QB rating.
Take that same spread that both TT and Cam played and LSU with better defenses during that time stopped Tebow for the most part, but Cam took over the game doing what Johnny couldn't do - smash LSU and throw over the top. He did the same to Bama with the conference title on the line.
Numbers lie. It is what you do in the biggest moments. In 2012, if TAMU beats LSU, that team would have possibly been in NC contention.
