Because that Auburn team was shitty but Cam and Fairley were that fricking good

It never gets mentioned but I think Auburn had 20 Seniors on that team and many were 5th year guys. They may not have been NFL level guys but many were close to that level.
No matter how dominant Cam and Fairly were, you can't just stick the two best players on a crappy team and have an undefeated NC season.
Having those hardworking "program guys" - the savy veterans and leaders is critical to success in my opinion. It also explains why LSU turns perennial top 5 recruiting classes into a Peach Bowl trip. All of that elite talent either declares for the draft early or turns into a lockerroom cancer.
