Excellent summation. Add to the fact that, of all the top 5 programs in the SEC during Saban's tenure, Bama has had to play most of them. Bryant-coached Tide teams didn't have to deal with an abundance of in-conference powerhouses on their regular season slate, nor did they have to play in an SEC championship game.

Case in point: during Bama's lengthy unbeaten streak from the 1978 opener through the upset loss to MSU in late 1980, there were only three Conference teams besides Bama who finished ranked in the AP top 20 - and Bama faced only one, #16 AU in '79.

Under Saban, Bama has faced 10 SEC teams that finished in the top 20 in the last three seasons.

Correct and you only had to play 6 conference games a year and you could also tie for championships.Much easier ti win a conference title back then.
