I think it would be pretty rough if Alabama gets down and they throw Hurts in. If the coaches think he can be the guy, start him. If Bateman is that much more experienced or knows the offense and is comfortable, then he should be able to come in if Hurts shits his pants. And if Bateman is those things, he should have won the job already.

Bateman has what, 1 advantage over the other guys? He's older and I guess would make less mistakes? It seems like he makes more mistakes to me. If he can't capitalize on his ONE advantage, why in the world would he start?

I don't disagree with anything you said, just speculating on why he might not get the start. As I said, I think they've already decided he's the guy for the long haul.

I'm not so sure that's the case. He makes plenty of mistakes. Less than Barnett but from what I've seen him and Hurts are equal in that field.

So let's look at game experience, he came in for a bit against Wisconsin and we ran mostly I think he had one boot leg dump to OJ. Next week against chump he came in same deal. Que Ole Miss, 11/14 80 something yards one pick and wouldn't run the ball on the read at all. He looked and played totally scared. Coker wins the team and the rest is history. So he has a grand total of maybe 2 quarters of SEC ball under his belt. You can claim that he has been in the system longer but Hurts runs more plays than the other two so X that. You could also say he doesn't have the ability to run some of Hurts plays. Etc Etc.

So what is the real difference here. IMO it's the fact Hurts has a better arm, not up for debate. And he is faster and runs the read better. Make up your own mind.

It might be a situation where Bateman is better at getting the call in, get them lined up quickly/correctly, checks, etc. at this point.
These things get glossed over at times but are extremely important.

Boz might be able to hopefully shed some light on this.
