The fact that he can't answer the question speaks for itself. Very talented kid but getting the ball and running to the line of scrimmage and falling down isn't going to cut it.

You have never been challenged or yelled at by a coach when falling below expectations?

wait...

Have you even ever played a sport before? I'm guessing no is the answer here. Take this SJW shite over to the mizzou board.

This attempt at trolling is bad and should feel bad.

If you non-SC fans knew anything about our first string RB, you'd agree with Muschamp calling him out like this.

What a bunch of little girls in this thread. He is trying to motivate the guy. This is David Williams last chance to prove himself and to say he has been underwhelming so far in his career is an understatement.
Coaches don't say things like this to motivate guys if they don't think they have the talent, and if he doesn't step it up you can change your link to "3rd string running back". If this comment hurts his feelings, he won't last long be an every down back in the SEC.
Spurrier used to say way worse than this about players and everyone thought it was funny.

Having gone to Military school for my formative years, I learned a little something about motivating 18-22 y/o young men.

My conclusion: Some people need their ego's stroked, and some need a kick in the @$$. Guess which one this was...

I don't know if you are just trolling South Carolina here or you are serious. I hope it is the first case.

I don't really have a problem with this. Some people need to get embarrassed before they make changes.

Eh....

I'll say this - he is a decent motivator and his players will usually lie down in traffic for him.

He just isn't a good CEO or manager, and that's what gets him in trouble. His organizational and personnel management skills.

He gives kicks in the arse when needed. It sounds like it was needed.

I don't have an issue with this. David Williams has been a huge let-down. Maybe this will piss him off and he'll actually do better.

How many coaches have you had in your life? This isn't that strange. You also don't know how this young man get motivated. Some players need to hear stuff like this while other don't. We don't know the whole situation so its ignorant to criticize him on this.

He is first string by default only. No one else at the position has played a down of college football.

I'm cool with it. He did something similar with the secondary staying they "were light years from where they need to be." They responded well. If Williams doesn't oh well. Muschamps right, if you are a ball player who needs constant motivation to do your job are you really a ball player?

Will must try to motivate with negative reinforcement. We'll see if it works for him.

So how about post the whole response?

quote:

A fairly innocuous question about what Williams needed to do to become an elite running back in the Southeastern Conference drew perhaps the most pointed answer at any one player so far in the Muschamp tenure.

“Everyday consistency,” Muschamp said. “The guy has some ability, but it’s hard when you have to challenge someone every single day of practice and every meeting. It gets tiring for coaches. I asked him the other day, ‘What have you accomplished since you’ve been here.’ ... I didn’t get a response. Next question.”

So he's simply asking for his first-string RB to be consistent and that as an HC he doesn't want to feel like he has to beg and plead said RB to give his full effort. And that in order to be an elite SEC RB you have to put in the effort.

Pretty tame to be bitching about honestly. And I'm willing to be Williams is probably not particularly phased by it seeing as he played under Spurrier before Muschamp.

David Williams is simply the 1st string running back by default. I feel confident that if Ty'son Williams didn't have to sit out David Williams would be the second possibly third back in the rotation. That's how mediocre the guy has been. He literally has done NOTHING

It's fine for Muschamp to challenge his players, but don't do it in a way that harms their development. More importantly, though, don't go tell the media about it. That's the kind of stuff you keep behind closed doors.

“it’s hard when you have to challenge someone every single day of practice and every meeting. It gets tiring for coaches."

That's called coaching. Some players strive for greatness on their own but the majority have to be kicked in the butt until they achieve it.
