The past 4 years there has been a SEC team in the preseason ranked in the Top 10 that has derailed and finished unranked.
2015: Auburn
2014: South Carolina
2013: Georgia(honorable mention for A&M, starting the year #7 with lots of hype and losing 4 games)
2012: Arkansas
Which team will be that team this year.
I am going with Ole Miss. Too many off the field distractions.

Tennessee. End of thread.

to be fair, we beat 2 straight teams ranked #6 in september before injuries derailed our season.
We still went 8-5 regardless, but it's worth pointing out there was a pretty valid reason for our shortcomings.

Either Ole Miss or Tennessee. I think they're legit expected to beat Alabama by a very small portion of the media.

Well if 2012 Arkansas' coach didn't go over the handle bars that wouldn't have been "hype".
Had all the talent but didn't have the offensive maestro in charge.

There are four teams that jump out at me because they all are skirting disaster.
LSU - They are so loaded this year, expectations are so high, and they came so close to disaster last year, that their confidence is probably fragile.
Tennessee - Extremely high expectations for a staff that, unlike LSU's, has never done it before. Could have a great year, but also fragile.
Texas A&M - Their coach seems out of touch and has been declining. If the year doesn't start well, look out.
Auburn - Another school, the fans of which, are questioning the coach.
All of these schools have fans that are restless. A bad start could snowball.

You missed the biggest one of all:
2013 - Florida #10 - Finished 4-8 unranked (Georgia at least has a winning record that year)
It goes farther than that. If you include current SEC teams in the cycle.
2011: aTm preseason #8 - Finished 7-6 unranked
2010: Florida preseason #4 - Finished 8-5 unranked
If you expand it to include the top 15:
2009 - Georgia #13 - finished 8-5 unranked
2008 - LSU #7 - finished 8-5 unranked
2007 - Trend stops here. All current SEC teams ranked in the top 15 in the preseason polls finished the season ranked.

TN is setting them selves up for a great letdown. The prediction board is comical at predictions for this year. They are the off season champs every year

Tennessee, then Ole Miss.
OM will just get their dirty pipes shut off
Tennessee will fly too close to the sun, and get burnt

Without a doubt it will be LSU. They are consistently touted as the "best team ever in Baton Rouge." The media and their fans have said this every year for a decade. Yet recent history has shown that Les Miles doesn't recruit enough MEN to handle the rigors of the SEC West.
You watch, this year will be more of the same. LSU will play Alabama tough, and then turn around and show their asses in Fayetteville. Back-to-back losses. Just like the last two years.
Then they'll fire Les Miles.

Most are picking OM third in the west And they have one of the top 5 most difficult schedules. I would definitely say LSU but they host their two most difficult opponents. Hell in still going with LSU. Those games last year against Bama, Arky and Ole Miss still stand out to me. Not sure that front seven is going to improve as much as they will need to in order for them to be the top 5 team some believe they are.

LSU, Tennessee and Bama are the only teams being hyped as best I can tell. Out of the three, I'd think LSU would be most likely to disappoint, followed closely by Tennessee.
Both have really tough schedules, and could realistically have really good teams go 8-4 or 9-3.
That said, it's possible and even perhaps likely that all three finish 10-2 or better.

What teams would you say qualify this year for preseason hype?
