Just seems petty from a national championship coach who doesn't need the kid

The kid can still receive his degree on Saturday and go to over 100+ other D1 programs and play ball within a month. Does Jimbo want him?

Rules are rules. The SEC commissioner Greg Sankey agreed with Saban.

If you start letting players go wherever they want in the SEC, you would have other coaches getting in contact with players and talking them into transferring. It would be a mess. I believe it's called tampering.

Let the player learn the team's playbook (like Smith did in the spring) & then transfer to your team.
That's why a lot of coaches don't want the player to transfer to a team they will be playing.

Smith can still transfer, just not to an SEC team without sitting out a year.

The University was ready to help him transfer to Miami.

If he wants to go to Georgia, he still can. He will just have to sit out a year.
