re: School uniform/dress code: Yay or Nay?

I don't mind school uniforms, we usually have to wear a "uniform" of some sort in professional settings, so I see nothing wrong actually priming kids for the fact some individualism goes out the door when you trade your time for compensation (in this case for grades). Also, it cuts down on one less stressor kids/parents have to worry about and attention can be diverted elsewhere.

Now as far as hairstyle? As long as it's not dyed some unnatural, distracting color, I don't see how/why kids can't choose their own.
