Oregon, thanks to Nike, dips into the rich recruiting ground of California. Michigan and the upper Midwest... as we know after Ohio State beat Alabama does produce enough talent to win a Natty.
The problem with the Michigan teams is that, again, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a university in the upper Midwest in a population that is declining.
Why be a second (though vital) stringer at Michigan State or CMU, EMU, WMU, when you can win a title at North Dakota State starting? There is talent there, but not enough to feed a system unless you have a great recruiter like Urban Meyer running the show.
