FWIW, Kentucky probably missed the boat on any kind of NC contention for quite some time in not hiring Howard Schnellenberger.

For UK to be successful in the SEC, much less at a playoff level, they would need to make some serious inroads in Ohio. They've picked off a couple recruits up there that are Ohio State quality but they'd need to really dip in because the state of Kentucky itself isn't going to produce that much talent. I feel like they're at least trying to make adjustments to things in their control like facilities and coaching salaries to try to get back to consistent bowl status as they had under Rich Brooks.

Stoops had a pretty big mess to clean up while trying to maintain status quo in the SEC and learning on the job as an HC. If he gets UK back to a bowl this season then I have no problem giving him time. I'm not naive enough to think years of losing gets fixed overnight without putting a pretty big NCAA target on your back.
