I don't think that's true with Miami but FSU most certainly ducked.

Hogs were top 20 programs in football, basketball, track, and baseball the 15 years before we were invited. So athletic program was in better shape than it is today. Also, the SEC was looking to have a championship game in football and needed 2 divisions and 12 teams to be able to do that.

It wasn't as much about TV eyes back then as it was Arkansas was viewed with more respect as an athletic program nationally and SEC was looking at the revenue a football championship game could produce. Also, geographically we were an easy add. The SEC thought getting us could also be a gateway to getting Texas too. But the Texas legislature wouldn't allow Texas to leave by themselves and abandon the other schools on the SWC.

Thank goodness Frank Broyles has the forsight and the clout to get us out of the sinking ship known as the SWC.
