Perhaps you are watching slapping which works in softball due to distance and speed that is not in baseball. Unlike a bunt, where the batter is stationary, the slapper is already in motion. Here is a link to get a better feel.

Baseball will use the push bunt on occasion, lazy pitcher and deep 2B. Batter gets moving but nothing like softball.
