To me this is exactly why LSU IS overrated. I don't understand why people think that their team is going to be better in any given year because they have a new coordinator. It takes time for any coach to get his team rolling, no matter what the talent pool looks like. This isn't always the case, but it usually is.

LSU 2008
Scoring D - 56th, (24.2 ppg)
Total D - 32nd (325.5 ypg) YPP Yards Per Play 39th (5.00)
Pass D - 74th (215.4 ypg) YPA Yards Per Attempt 47th tie (6.8)

LSU 2009
Scoring D - 11th (16.2 ppg)
Total D - 26th (327.6 ypg), YPP 15th (4.68)
Pass D - 29th (194.2 ypg), YPA 18th tie (6.1)

2007 was our last year with Pelini, but Miles went the wrong route with the two position coaches as Co-DCs for 2008. It was pretty Bad. In 2009 we got a proper DC in Chavis and the results speak for themselves.

I could do the same when we had the 3 stooges coalition doing the offense in 2012 and then Cam Cameron in 2013. The improvement was ridiculous.

It's not as uncommon as you think. If you make a good hire and you already have some pieces established, you will improve greatly, immediately. Arkansas noticed that immediately with the OC change, same with TAMU and UNC with their DC changes. They went from horrific to at least mediocre.

Conversely, even if you have the pieces, if you make a bad hire, you'll have a worse year. LSU saw this with the Steele hire in pass defense the most.

LSU's defense is going to get burned plenty of times this season.

LSU's defense is going back to man coverage from zone coverage, which will greatly improve our pass defense and fix all those bullshite openings we had everywhere last year. The change in the pass defense from Chavis to Steele was embarrasing, and most of us knew Miles made a horrible decision when he got Steele.

When we brought in Ed O at defense most were thrilled. Our sack total went from 19 in 2014 (103rd) to 34 in 2015 (24th). We went from 105th in sacks per game to 17th. That was with a sophomore DT) 2 first year starters on the DL (one a 6'6 230lbs true freshman),

We are getting bigger at LB and DL to hold up in the run game, and our pass rush will improve even more with Aranda's scheme.
