Carroll's first two seasons in the NFL
16-16

Saban's first two season in the NFL
15-17

Not a huge gap. Also Carroll was fired after his first year in the NFL.

So in 118 games Saban, has lost only 6 times to a team that didn't finish in the top 10.

In 101 games, Carroll lost 15 times to teams that didn't finish in top 10.

Carroll's teams were the best "big game" teams I can remember. They used to come out and utterly destroy other Top 10 type teams. However, they also would slip up and lose 1 game every year to a bad 7-5/6-6 type team.

I feel like that is a pretty clear difference in the coaching/management philosophies of the 2. Saban, no emotion, treat every play like it has a life of it's own. Carroll, emotion, which can lead to blow the doors off performances but letdowns against lower level teams.

Both were/are elite coaches.
