Bateman will probably prosper as a starter. Playing your first game as starter against a defense where probably 8 of those guys will play in the NFL is a tough task for anyone.

Bateman's main problem when he played in games last year was that he always threw it to the dump off back or receiver who was running the emergency route and thise guys would always be 2-3 yards short of the marker and Bateman would throw it to them like that on 3rd down and we wouldn't get the first. Now sometimes that's what you need when coverage is excellent but you have to eventually get first downs and sustain drives.

I think his experience in the system and Kiffin's grooming will help him improve significantly. He's very quick. He was a superstar coming out of high school in Utah and he can throw the deep ball but often orefers not to.
