-I understand they're for exposure.
-I understand the humongous advantage we SEC fans enjoy giving the recruiting territory.
-I understand we don't want opponents recruiting kids local to us.

But those advantages are all about competition, nothing more. Why would the NCAA rule in the SEC/ACCs favor to make our lives easier competitively? That, in itself, seems inherently unfair to the rest of the country, right?

Let's pretend the NCAA isn't as corrupt as we all know it is, what's the logic behind this ban from a 3rd party attempting to practice fairness? What's the harm (outside what I said above) in letting schools practice in warm weather?

I know, bring on the downvotes, jsut trying to have an honest conversation. Imagine that. Any lawyer types out there wanna chime in?

School A is rich: Can afford to set up camps in all 50 states.

School B is not rich: Can't afford to set up any camps.

NCAA says no, that does not help competitiveness.

ETA: Yes, I downvoted. You basically asked for it.

If you commit to a school, or coach at a school, that is in the north and has notoriously bad weather, you don't get to complain that it's not sunny enough for practice. You made that bed, you lie in it.

As for "fairness", road alreadyd said it. Maybe 20% of the country would be able to do as they please and practice anywhere, but the other 80+ teams simply can't do that.

Harbaugh and CUM need to stay out of the south.

I don't think LSU would like it if they were holding camps in New Orleans.

Great rule for the Aggies as the Big 12 schools were allowed to hold satellite camps in Texas.

This is a big win for the SEC.

Coaches, athletic directors, etc. want to spend time with their families. If the B1G starts holding camps, SEC schools have to as well, cutting into what is basically the only slow time of year.

It wasn't just the SEC that voted against this.

Because it only benefits the Big10 to come south. Southern schools don't want to have camps in those dumpy northern states

Hell, take other conferences out of the conversation.

While Hawaii is not a traditionally talent rich state, would LSU or AU or UT fans be okay if Alabama were to decide to hold "spring training" in Honolulu during spring break?

Would UF fans be cool with Saban holding a camp in Gainesville? LSU fans okay with a Saban camp an UHigh in Baton Rouge? A&M fans okay with a Saban camp in College Station?

Alabama can financially afford to do such things; what if other SEC schools could not?

Just because this started with Harbaugh holding a few camps in the south doesn't mean that a lot of the "richer" football schools wouldn't take this and run wild with it.

It's not taking away something from northern schools. Some schools have more desirable locations than others, that's just geography.

No.

Look up the concept of MAD OP:

LINK

If the NCAA didn't act then the SEC would have changed our rule and coaches like Saban would have camps ALL over the country to compensate for what Harbaugh tried to do. What make the NCAA react wasn't the fairness of this current situation, but the fact that it would quickly be escalated into another arms race. Every new arms race makes amateurism harder to defend in court.

Quality point and I'd upvote more than once if I could. I'm a huge LSU fan and anything u do in life to one up someone as long as its ethically and morally sound make it happen. It would definitely make it interesting.

Michigan fans wanted to be self righteous and say they were helping out the "poor kids".

I say they would hurt smaller programs that can't afford to hold these camps.

Some colleges could set up camp anywhere they wanted, some couldn't.

Alabama could set up anywhere. In fact Coach Saban mentioned the Washington, D.C. area would be a place he would have considered.

It's not fair to the smaller schools that can't afford it. Actually as a LSU fan you should sympathize with that.
