Didn't Tony run track this year? If it was something to do with PEDs, I would think that he wouldn't have been able to do that either. My guess is its an amateurism issue for football.
It's either PED's or an amateurism issue I think. If it was for weed or something else, the University wouldn't even be contesting it. Also, supposedly not related to getting sent home from the playoff game either...that was just a team discipline issue after he got into a fight at practice.

The NCAA does random testing at least once a year at every program. He could have gotten popped just recently.

Per Aaron Suttles it has nothing to do with amatuerism

Not amateurism.

Then maybe its some weird PED issue like UF's QB last season????
It's interesting that Saban and the school are contesting it....I guess Tony has put in some solid work to rehabilitate himself with Nick since missing the playoffs

Plausible scenario RE Brown - Sent home from Dallas, but NCAA drug test results come out before national title game. Failed recreational test = 50% season suspension. Brown says all the right things, Saban forgives, and despite the looming suspension Saban HS him practice with the 1s and 2s in spring. Bama appeals suspension noting he was held out of the narional title game. Citing the OSU tatto-gate case, they note the special nature of bowl games and argue that should equal more than 1 2016 game, and that he should be suspended 4 or less games. Believing Brown could be back as key DB depth for a key stretch in the season, Saban continues to give Brown reps in spring practice over other guys and gives him yet another chance.
Who knows? Maybe I'm right

Bad, bad, Tony Brown.
The biggest bust in the whole damned town.
Smaller than Saban's dong.
Dumber than a bump on a log.
