it works. I don't think anyone would entertain the idea that Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas, Nebraska, and Ohio State are better all-time programs than Alabama even though they have more all-time wins. Notre Dame, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Ohio State have better all-time winning percentages too. But that argument would be viewed as ridiculous, and rightfully so.
