Yeah, I'll want to live somewhere within 15 minutes of the hospital for call. The only reason I suggested a newer home was because I thought it may be more likely to sell if I need to leave quickly after residency.
I was at 38-7, and it fricking sucked. However, I am looking forward to going to some games throughout the next few years.

Stay away from Northeast. Other than that it's whatever you like. Nifong (and southwest of there) is the typical mcSuburb and strip mall scene that's soooo popular with the bland white folks.

I thought it may be more likely to sell

You'll notice that he posted again about his housing search, but didn't deny being a Republican.
To our young friend: In all sincerity, I applaud the fact that you chose medicine. Good luck in Columbia (you'll love it) and thank you for choosing to help people with your working hours.

It is a good place despite negative press. I mostly agree with the south of 70 theory but there are some nice spots other areas that might be worth checking. If you're gonna cut out after the residency pay attention to resale value and potential. Lots of relatives there--ain't the south but a good place.

Man. A guy asks for housing advice and the most substantive shite was some whitebread suburbtopia crap. How about giving him some rundowns on the various areas. I'll do it for Fayetteville:
1. Mount Sequoyah: mix of rental and owner. This is a great old school neighborhood with great elementary schools.
2. Park place: if you have kids but don't want to totally give in to suburban flight, this is your place. Great neighborhood for young families with lots of playmates in walking distance.
3. South side: Hawthorne street if fville. It's on the come up but has a long way to go. If you're into artsy multiculturalism with a ghetto edge this is your place
4. East side: you are wealthy and probably wish you lived in Bentonville or somewhere with a PF Changs within a 5 dollar uber ride distance. Move north as soon as you can.
5. West side: some realtor dickered you into buying in the "growth district." Yeah. It sucks to buy in a suburb and realize your suburb isn't the good suburb
So yeah. I think the OP deserves a little something more from our Mizzou fam.

What the frick does being a Republican have to do with wanting to own a home in a decent neighborhood? Why does this matter so much to you? Makes no sense.
It appears you're letting your deep-seated hate for a political party make you make needlessly hostile posts in a benign thread.
Calm your shrill arse down.

Unfortunately, yes... After Katrina, all of the displaced individuals decided to bring their gang ties here. That's when the crime rate became a routine on the north side of town.

Except our description pretty much sums up Columbia. Literally, you want to be on the south side of I-70. The west side of town is nice too. That's where I grew up. If you're in the 65202 zip code, you can buy a nice house for pocket change.
Pretty easy equation:
65203= high property value and easy to sell
65202= low property value and more difficult to sell

Many times
It isn't actually that bad, just not my cup of tea
Downtown isnt bad, but the people are definitely different than Southern folks
Winter weather is very different from Fay for sure
Crappy bbq scene, but most restaurants I've eaten at were pretty good. I personally don't get the big attraction to flat branch

I like old houses, and hate subdivisions with a burning passion, so this may not be applicable. But the rectangle formed by
West of Providence
South of Broadway
North/East of Stadium
Is as good as it gets in Columbia IMO. If I were moving there and had some money, that's where I'd be
Congrats and best of luck on Dr school

While I agree that the southwest part of town is the way to go, there are parts north of I-70 that are really nice too. I know someone who did a residency and lived in the Vanderveen area, I believe. Straight shot down Providence to the University, nice neighborhood. It was great for his kids, but they weren't in school then.
Columbia is a great town, and OP, you'll enjoy living there. And when they say "south of I-70", they really mean "south of Broadway." There are some rough areas between the highway and Broadway, especially in the 3rd ward. But a good realtor will help you with that.

i'm really republican (i should say conservative. eff the republicans) and i live in a decently (nonviolent) crime riddled area in a much older area of town with a lot of racial diversity.
i'm confused by the stereotype. am i doing it wrong?
